Working Principle: CHL8103-08CRT is an integrated, monolithic DC-DC controller using pulse width modulation (PWM) to control the switching frequency of the power FETs and provide precise DC voltage regulation. The primary control parameter is duty cycle, which is proportional to the instantaneous output voltage. This open-loop operation requires a voltage reference to set the desired output voltage. The reference voltage sets the amount of duty cycle required to maintain the output voltage under load. The output voltage is sensed via a voltage divider connected between the output and ground, which is buffered by an internal amplifier and compared to the reference voltage.

The internal high and low side power FETs operate in alternation, in accordance with the duty cycle of the PWM control signal. The internal power FETs are capable of providing high efficiency and also have very low ON resistance, enabling a higher voltage conversion ratio. The high side power FET is a P-Channel while the low-side is an N-Channel, providing higher impedance when the high side is ON and the low side is OFF.

The CHL8103-08CRT also has a wide range of protection features, including under-voltage lockout, over-current protection, over-temperature protection, and short-circuit protection. Additionally, it has an active standby pin that can be used to reduce the overall power consumption in low-power applications by powering off the power FETs until the active standby pin is enabled.
