CHL8112A-08CRT is an advanced, low quiescent current, synchronous rectified, buck DC/DC controller from power management Integrated Circuits (PMIC). It is a step-down regulator with integrated low side MOSFETs that accepts a wide input voltage range from 2.4 V to 5.5 V and provides an output voltage range from 0.6 V to 4.3 V with a maximum output current of 0.9 A. This device is ideal for mobile and portable applications.

CHL8112A-08CRT provides an accurate, low noise, and fast response output voltage regulation and features a programmable soft-start time and a wide frequency range of up to 1.2 MHz to minimize overall solution size. The device features a constant frequency PWM control architecture, which provides excellent transient response while providing true disconnect operation of the output voltage allowing power saving during standby time. It also features an internal under-voltage (UV) lockout circuit and a programmable maximum peak current limit for added protection.

The working principle of CHL8112A-08CRT implements an integrated low side MOSFET, connecting an external high side MOSFET to the input voltage source. The integrated low side MOSFET provides a discharge loop to the output capacitor through an external sense resistor. An internal error amplifier monitors the output voltage of the regulator by comparing between the output voltage feedback signal to an internal reference voltage.

When the output voltage goes too low, the error amplifier will output an appropriate signal to push up the duty cycle of the PWM control block, turning on the low side MOSFET and charging the output capacitor. When the desired level of output voltage is reached, the PWM control block will reduce the duty cycle of the low side MOSFET, thus discharging the output capacitor, and maintaining the output voltage. The process repeats unless the input voltage or the output load current changes, with the response time determined by the loop compensation components.

CHL8112A-08CRT integrate a wide range of features in an ultra-small package. It employs a 16-lead VFSOP footprint and is backward compatible with Pb-Free G-Pak™ surface mount package. The device offers electrical over-current protect, positive voltage clamp protection, soft start, Power Good (PG) output circuitry and low-start up current consumption.
