Thyristors are a type of electronic device with four layers of alternating N-type and P-type materials called a “quadruple layer structure”. The two outer layers of P-type material form the two terminals of the device, and the two inner layers of N-type material form a junction called the “junction gate” or “gate-cathode” junction.
