Introduction:
The CPC1968J is a Solid State Relay (SSR) designed to switch electric power efficiently. It is widely used in automation, heating, communications, automotive and medical fields for various processes such as controlling motors, valves, switches, fans, lighting and other equipment.
Mechanical Structure:
The CPC1968J is a compact SSR module with a weight of 80 grams, and packed inDIN-rail-type mounting structure. The SSR module’s external dimensions are 75mm x 79 mm x 15.4 mm and include a double-side-printed circuit board.
Physical Operation:
To control the SSR, an input signal is required which can be either an AC or DC voltage signal. The CPC1968J has an optically-coupled input circuit, which is an isolation type of circuit, for controlling the output switch. The input part is made of a light emitting diode (LED) and a phototransistor. When energized with a voltage, the LED emits light and the optically-coupled transistor is triggered, thus controlling the relay. When the input voltage is applied, the phototransistor opens up, allowing the current to flow and switch on the electrical load. When the voltage is removed, the phototransistor disables and the SSR switches off the output. The SSR uses a zero-cross detection feature, which detects zero crossings of the AC input voltage, so that it switches at the peak of the AC waveform, minimizing interference and power loss.
Protection:
The CPC1968J Solid State Relay Module has various protection mechanisms to protect the module from over-current, over-voltage and reverse polarity. The module features a built-in Reverse Polarity Protection (RPP), which prevents any damage to the load or to the SSR module caused by an incorrect connection.
