The CR4620-150 monitor functions as a current/voltage transducer that is specifically designed to measure the magnitude and direction of current and voltage signals. It combines the functionality of both a current sensor and a voltage sensor to detect electrical irregularities and make precise readings. It is composed of two impedance sensing coils, a voltage-sensing Hot Junction, a current-sensing Cold Junction, and a Hall Effect device. The monitor is designed to operate in the 600V-VAC (nominal) industry standard environment.

The current/voltage transducer consists of a voltage-sensing coil, a current-sensing coil, and a magnetic field created by a permanent magnet. The voltage-sensing coil is connected to the hot junction of the monitor, while the current-sensing coil is connected to the cold junction. As voltage passes through the voltage-sensing coil, a swirl of current is detected. The current oriented through the current-sensing coil creates a magnetic field. When this magnetic field of the current-sensing coil is perpendicular to the magnetic field of the permanent magnet, opposite current flows through the voltage-sensing coil, the Hot Junction, and the Cold Junction. This negative current, along with the monitored current and voltage signals, is what is known as the voltage transducer.

When the monitored current and voltage signals are converted into a voltage signal, a voltage signal is generated that is proportional to the current and voltage signals. This voltage signal is then amplified and detected by the Hall Effect device of the monitor. When the voltage signal is detected, the monitor enables the current/voltage transducer to detect and monitor abnormal current and voltage signals. Additionally, the monitor can also be used to detect and protect against hazardous currents and voltages.

In order to measure current signals, the CR4620-150 monitor can be equipped with an external current-sensing coil. The external current-sensing coil acts as a transducer and is used to convert the monitored current signals into a voltage signal. This voltage signal is then amplified and measured by the Hall Effect device.
