The CS51022ADB is a synchronous switch mode regulator that is used to provide 2 and 3-output DC-DC supplies using a standard architecture. The CS51022ADB is capable of delivering up to 4A of output current with low output voltage regulation down to 0.5V. It can also provide additional current limiting protection and offers the user-selectable “mode3” soft-start operation for prevention of inrush currents. The CS51022ADB has two different types of output stages available. The first is the synchronous buck-type stage in which the output voltage tracks the input voltage precisely, due to the use of an inductor and synchronous device instead of a diode-type supply. This allows for more efficient conversion of the input voltage for applications requiring very low output voltages. The second output stage is a non-synchronous boost mode. This allows for higher output voltages to be generated for applications requiring higher output voltages.
The working principle of the CS51022ADB is based on a continuous oscillator that, when enabled, switches the outputs of the regulator on and off with a frequency determined by a resistor divider network. This oscillator is coupled to an internal error amplifier that adjusts the duty cycle of the oscillator in order to maintain a voltage difference between the error amplifier’s positive and negative inputs. By controlling this differential, the output voltage of the regulator is regulated.
The CS51022ADB has a low standby current of 35µA, making it ideal for low-power applications. It also has an ‘active’ current of up to 2.5A, enabling it to supply a higher current output than some other switching regulators of similar size. It has a switching frequency range of 200kHz to 1MHz, and it has thermal and short-circuit protection.
