Current transducers, also known as electric current sensors, are electrical devices that accurately measure and monitor direct current and alternating current (AC). A current transformer (CT) is an instrument transformer used for current measurement and power monitoring. CSLA2CD, referred to as LCL or low-cost current measuring differential transducer, is a low-cost version of CT based on differential transformer principle, which features high accuracy and overload capacity.
The CSLA2CD transducer, which belongs to the current transformer family, comprises of three cores with ferromagnetic material and a few conductors which are interconnected within a common composite package. The primary winding having two cores form the basic transformer element, whereas the third core collects the return (or reflux) flux from the secondary circuit. When current flows through the primary winding, a magnetic field flux associated is created which divides itself into two equal parts due to the presence of two cores. One flux is directed to the adjacent core, while the second flux is coordinated out of the primary winding to the return core. The resulting return flux produced by the third core inside the core packages produces an output voltage which is proportional to the primary current and can be measured, processed, and transmitted.
The differential transformer principle involves two coil windings developed on the same iron core, with one of the primary windings adapted to receive the primary current of the electric circuit whose value has to be measured. The following secondary winding derives an output voltage proportional to the square of the primary current. Therefore, CSLA2CD features high accuracy in current measurement. Additionally, CSLA2CD features good overload capacity, since its output voltage is independent of the power factor and, hence, reacts linearly to the overloads, regardless of the variation in the power factor.
Other benefits that theC SLA2CD provides include high accuracy at a wide temperature range and high resistance to electromagnetic disturbances. Moreover, the device features good insulation against both alternating and direct current, as well as a floating current outlet, enabling the integration into nearly any power system. Furthermore, CSLA2CD’s compact package offers excellent structural strength and optimal heat dissipation, with a reduced number of components on board.

CSLA2CD is based on a differential transformer principle, which enables it to correctly measure current, regardless of the power factor and other changing power system parameters.
