The purpose of CT is to sense, convert and measure electric current mainly for protective, monitoring and controlling of electrical system. CT are widely categorized into two distinct types. The primary type is the solid-state or magnetic core transducers, while the other type is the Current to Frequency Interface (CFI) transducers.
Of the two, the CFI transducer is the most efficient type of current transducers. Through employing a frequency-to-current conversion algorithm, CFI transducers are capable of providing a wide range of current values with a high degree of accuracy. This type of transducer is also cost-effective and relatively easy to use.
The CFI transducer is typically used in applications where the applied current is to be measured in real-time.
