Solid State Relays, also known as SSRs, are electronic valves which serve as power switches. The most common type is the optically coupled SSR, which has two semiconductors (transistors and LEDs) to electrically separate the control (input) signal from the power (output) signal. These devices are commonly used in automation and control systems, due to their ability to switch higher voltage and/or current than conventional electromechanical relays.
