CY29775AXI is a clock and timing solution for high speed systems and applications. It is an integrated silicon chip that combines an oscillator with a programmable phase-locked loop (PLL) and multiple outputs. It can generate accurate and repeatable clocks from 0 to over 650MHz, along with configurable differential clock pairs for desired system operating frequencies, clock phase alignment and synchronization.
The CY29775AXI supports a wide variety of I/O combinations, including LVDS, LVPECL, SSTL and CML. It also supports jitter attenuation and frequency synthesis functions required for modern high-speed ADCs and DACs used in communication and imaging applications.
The CY29775AXI can be used in a number of different application fields, ranging from networking and communications to industrial automation. It is an ideal clock generator and PLL solution for high speed applications such as radio frequency (RF) transceivers, wireless base stations, digital TV and broadcast, Ethernet, Video Over IP or multicasting, audio systems, and data acquisition for test and measurement. When used in data acquisition systems and image processing applications, the CY29775AXI can be configured to generate two clock pair outputs, serving as the sample and hold clock for one channel and the main system clock for the other channel. In networking and communications systems, the CY29775AXI can generate a differential clock pair for the uplink and a separate pair for the downlink, ensuring synchronization of data transfer between the two sides.
At its core, the CY29775AXI is a phase-locked loop (PLL) designed to provide accurate and repeatable clocks with low phase noise. The PLL consists of a reference clock source, phase-frequency detector (PFD), charge pump, loop filter and voltage-controllable oscillator (VCO). The reference clock is used to compare the generated clock and the PLL adjusts the VCO frequency to maintain synchronization between the reference clock and the generated clock. The output frequency of the VCO is determined by the frequency of the reference clock and the settings of the PFD, charge pump and loop filter.
The CY29775AXI uses a dual loop PLL architecture to support both frequency and phase locking. The primary loop is used for frequency locking and the secondary loop is used for phase locking. This allows the device to provide multiple outputs frequencies and also support tight frequency and phase alignment between clock outputs. The PLL can also be configured to provide 3-state outputs for further flexibility.
In addition, the CY29775AXI can be programmed to attenuate jitter with spread spectrum frequency modulation (SSFM) and clock cycle interruption (CCI) techniques. SSFM helps to reduce the cyclostationary and non-cyclostationary noise generated by on-chip switching and CCI helps to reduce peak power consumption, emissions and crosstalk.
