The CY74FCT652ATSOC is a high-speed, Ultra Low Power (ULP), octal bus transceivers/registers with 3-state outputs. This IC finds a number of applications in many high-speed data processing systems. It is used as an interface between multiple computers and a data bus that run at different speeds or for controlling multiple electronic peripherals associated with a computer.

The CY74FCT652ATSOC is a part of the FCT family of advanced low voltage CMOS logic components from Cypress Semiconductor Corporation. FCT devices provide improved performance while consuming lesser power. This IC operates at both 3.3V and 5V. It is designed to handle data rate up to 35MHz and comes in a plastic 16 pin SOIC (Small Outline Integrated Circuit) package.

This octal transceiver/register IC uses two control lines R/ and ~G to control the flow of data in and out of the device. The R/ pin is used to select either the 8-bit input or the 8-bit output register. Whenever the R/ signal is low, the 8-bit data at the register\'s inputs is stored in the 8-bit register, ready to drive the outputs. On the rising edge of the ~G signal, the data from the register is output to the lines. The inverse of the ~G signal is used to gate the outputs and to prevent bus contention when switching the R/ signal.

The CY74FCT652ATSOC can be used as a bidirectional buffer for transferring data between two 8-bit buses. In this configuration, it acts as an enabled AND/OR logic as input and output data can be selectively ANDed or ORed to the output data by setting the E (Enable) pins accordingly. The direction of the data flow between the inputs and the outputs of the IC can also be set by the F (direction) pin.

The CY74FCT652ATSOC IC also features dynamic bus hold circuitry which allows it to reduce power consumption while holding the data present on the bus. This feature is especially useful in applications that involve data transfers between buses of different speeds. When the device is not being used, this feature will prevent the bus from being charged through the power supply. Additionally, the device is capable of detecting bus conflicts and automatically disables itself thereby preventing damage or data corruption.

Another unique feature of this IC is the Auto-Bus Release which is used for releasing the data lines from the IC when the device is not being used. This pin also enables 8 Acknowledge signals when the enable pin is high.

The CY74FCT652ATSOC IC provides other useful features like high-impedance outputs for improved signal integrity, low supply current of 700uA, a guaranteed input and output rise/fall times of typically 1.9ns and low quiescent current of 4mA with 3.3V and 5mA with 5V supply.
