Working Principle

The CY7C1346S-166AXC consists of an internal 8K memory block which is divided into two 4K memory units. This memory block can be accessed either as individual 4K units or as a single 8K unit. Each 4K memory block uses a two-bit multiplexing technique, where the two bits are shared between the two memory units, thereby providing the benefits of a wide bus capacity system.

The device stores data in binary form with each memory cell storing one bit of data. The 8K block is internally organized as either 256 word by 32-bits wide or 128 word by 64-bits wide. Each memory cell is powered by an associated bit line in the memory block.

The device is also provided with an asynchronous interface which is used to communicate with the device. This interface contains three signals: command, address, and data. In order to perform a read or write operation, the command signal is sent first, followed by the address signal, and lastly the data signal.
