CZRW5226B-G Application Field and Working Principle
The CZRW5226B-G is a single Zener diode, a form of diode which utilizes Zener breakdown. In a nutshell, Zener breakdown is the phenomenon which occurs in reverse-biased silicon diodes when voltages greater than the Zener voltage (or breakdown voltage) of the diode are applied. This breakdown voltage determines the voltage that the diode will regulate, making the CZRW5226B-G an ideal choice for low voltage system designs.A single Zener diode consists of one p-n junction, a p-type semiconductor and an n-type semiconductor. When an electric current passes through the diode, electrons are able to cross the p-n junction. In order to pass, it must cross the barrier created by the junction’s built-in field, which is measured in volts. The reverse breakdown voltage, better known as the Zener voltage, occurs when the reverse-bias voltage exceeds the junction barrier voltage. This causes the built-in field to increase, pushing the current through the barrier until it reaches the breakdown voltage, allowing the current to flow in both directions.The CZRW5226B-G Zener diode is designed to regulate voltage in applications that need reliable power regulation, as it is capable of handling currents up to 50mA and possesses a breakdown voltage of 5.2V. It is a general purpose diode, ideal for power integrated circuits, computer peripherals, and other low voltage circuit applications.In a system using a single Zener diode, such as the CZRW5226B-G, the diode is placed in a reverse bias configuration with the applied voltage present on its anode end and a power supply attached to its cathode end. When the applied voltage exceeds the breakdown voltage of the diode, a reverse flow of current will start and the power supply will be regulated by the breakdown voltage of the diode. For example, if a voltage of 6V is applied to the anode, but the power supply’s output is limited to 5.2V, the diode will limit the flow of current to the circuit and keep the voltage at 5.2V. As a result, the CZRW5226B-G Zener diode is an excellent device for power regulation, making it extremely useful in low voltage system designs.The CZRW5226B-G is also fairly easily integrated into a circuit. All that is required is to connect the anode end of the diode to the power source, the cathode end to the supply, and the necessary additional components.
