DC02D1205A is a DC DC converter whose specific application field and working principle will be discussed in the following contents. The DC02D1205A is a 6/12V Boost DC/DC Converter designed for automotive applications such as electric bikes, automobiles, motorcycles, power tools, and so on. It’s built in a high power density packaging form with an integrated heat-sink cover which is capable of providing up to 12A of output current. The DC02D1205A is versatile transformer less high efficiency DC/DC converter that can provide a clean and cost-effective 6V to 12V solution at high current rating of 12A. The DC/DC converter is also capable of being voltage adjustable over a wide range of 6V to 35V. It also maintains high efficiency over an input voltage of 8-35V and the output current up to 12A by using a high efficiency synchronous rectifier.The working principle is based on a simplified buck-boost circuit operating in a voltage step-up/step-down mode. In the step-up mode, when the input voltage is below the output voltage, the PWM control adjusts the PWM duty cycle which increases VOUT to reach the output voltage. In the step-down mode, when the input voltage is above the output voltage, the PWM control adjusts the PWM duty cycle to decrease VOUT to reach the output voltage. As the DC02D1205A is a transformerless DC/DC converter, it relies on external inductors, capacitors and resistors to filter and regulate the outputs. The DC02D1205A has a relatively low quiescent current of 70µA under light loading conditions and can efficiently converts 6V to 12V input voltage to a 12V output voltage without the need for an additional heat sink. It offers an excellent line and load regulation, with up to ±3% regulation accuracy. The DC02D1205A also features such protection functions as output over-current protection (OCP), output over voltage protection (OVP), over-temperature protection (OTP), output short circuit protection (SCP). It also has a current limit protection that limits the maximum output current with inductor temperature compensation. In conclusion, the DC02D1205A is an efficient, reliable, and adaptive transformer-less DC/DC converter that can be used in a multitude of automotive applications. Its simple, effective working principle and protected circuitry make it an excellent choice for providing both the 6V and 12V outputs at high current rating of 12A.
