DC1445A Application Field and Working Principle

The DC1445A evaluation system is designed as a low-cost, low-power, single-board evaluation system for evaluating analog-to-digital converters (ADTs) and other components in the signal chain of energy-harvesting application fields. As a single system, it enables users to rapidly prototype their designs and reduce their development cycles. The evaluation board also features a XMC4500 microcontroller, which is the brain of the system, coupled with an energy harvesting front end, as well as a comprehensive set of peripherals.

Application Field

The DC1445A evaluation system was designed for energy-harvesting applications, such as wireless sensor node, wearable applications, and smart home systems. The application fields may vary depending on application specific requirements.

Working Principle

The DC1445A evaluation system uses the input power from an external source, such as a solar panel, RF receiver, or coil, and converts it to an acceptable voltage level for powering the system. The energy harvesting circuitry is connected to the main processor via the XMC4500 microcontroller. The microcontroller is the core of the system, that receives the analog input signals, converts them to digital signals using an analog-to-digital converter (ADT) integrated on the chip, and manages the power management of the system. The analog signal must be first converted to a digital signal for further processing, and a dedicated power management block helps to manage the power states of the system.

The entire system can also be connected to an external device, such as a smartphone or a computer, for data logging and user interface. This evaluation system helps to reduce the development cycles for energy-harvesting applications, as well as to provide a low-cost and low-power platform for prototyping designs with energy-harvesting components.
