Evaluation and Demonstration Boards and Kits are widely used in the modern electrical industry in order to test, develop and demonstrate different characteristics of the assets or products in electrical engineering. With regard to the DC1495A, its main application field is in the digital power application and it is extensively used in the high precision, current sensing and current monitoring in various power circuits. Along with the easy programming and fast acting performance, the board helps in designing automated electronic circuits to regulate the current and voltage signal levels.
The working principle of the DC1495A can be examined as follows – Its main function is to accurately measure a particular voltage and by external switching, this can also be done for the current signal. The board can accurately measure the voltage level between 0 to 10 V and the current signal level between 0 to 5A. It features a dual processor system, which comprises of a low power processor acting as an autonomous device that monitors the current circuit and a powerful processor responsible to supervise the current switching circuit. Further, a digital signal processing circuit (DSPC) is integrated along with an analog-to-digital converter (ADC).
The measuring process starts through the DSPC, where the signal coming from the electronic circuit or the asset is converted to a binary format. The low power processor reads and channels the binary data according to the set programming. The data is then sent to the powerful processor to process further and finally sent back to the electronically automated circuit with respect to the programming. The high and low voltage sensing is done through the ADC, with the help of two voltage reference value. After the data is measured, it is calculated and the issued current and voltage signal is shown on the LCD display.
This board provides the required accuracy of the current and voltage sense, as it can measure to a resolution level of 0.01mV or 0.01mA, depending upon whether the current or voltage is being monitored. Furthermore, the board incorporates a serial communication port, which provides its compatibility with the external device. By incorporating the UART interface, the data can be accessed from the computer systems. The data received are then referred to as ‘Display Sensing.’ This means that the data received from the external computer system s converted and displayed on the LCD display.
In accordance with this, the DC1495A features both the analog and digital system for controlling and sensing current and voltage signals. The board is also rated for a safe operating voltage of 5V DC and has a reverse input protection. This feature allows the board to have input protection from negative voltage. The board also contains a variety of features such as, high speed power switching, temperature sensor, comprehensive protection, and alarm signals for alarming the user in case a sudden fault appears in the circuit.
