The DC1802A is an off-line evaluation board kit designed to allow designers to quickly adapt and evaluate applications using ON Semiconductor NCP1653 Step-down PWM Controller ICs. It features a complete power conversion system including a coil, adiabatic ceramic capacitor, varistor, optoisolator and PWM controller, all integrated on a common board. This evaluation board also includes protection features such as thermal shutdown, over-voltage protection and over-current protection. This combination of components creates a safe and flexible solution for designers looking to evaluate new power conversion technologies.

The board’s high efficiency switching topology allows designers to easily evaluate a wide range of DC/DC and AC/DC conversion applications. Its control loop and power stage are tightly integrated allowing designers to set operating parameters and optimize performance. Additionally, the evaluation board features an integrated linear post-regulator to ensure a clean output waveform. The DC1802A comes pre-assembled and ready to use, allowing designers to quickly and accurately evaluate their design.

The DC1802A consists of the NCP1653 integrated PWM controller, NDD04N60PF low-frequency MOSFET, two low profile ISNU05N60FPA Microsense shunt resistors, two NDDL4545LP rectifiers, a D440 diode, a Murata 500KμF adiabatic ceramic capacitor, and a varistor. The board includes an integrated coil of 3.13μH., MV1608 varistor to protect against inrush current, two FT3930 optocouplers, and an NCP1006 linear post-regulator.

The NCP1653 PWM controller is used to regulate the output voltage of the board. It features over-voltage, under-voltage, and over-current protection, as well as adjustable frequency control and adjustable soft-start. When combined with the linear post-regulator, the board operates with high efficiency and low-noise when tested with different load stages. The 500μF low-profile adiabatic capacitor, combined with the NDD04N60PF MOSFET provide a clean power delivery at high switching frequencies.
