Diodes have many applications, such as rectifying alternating current (AC) signals. Zener diodes are specialized types of diodes that have low voltage breakdown characteristics. The type DDZ34-7 is a single Zener diode, used for many applications. It has a maximum power rating of 500 miliwatts, an operating temperature range of -65°C to + 175°C, and a maximum working voltage of 7 volts.
The DDZ34-7 can be used in circuits requiring voltage stabilization, voltage regulation, voltage reference, or overvoltage protection. It can be used to protect circuits from transient voltage spikes, as well as to maintain a constant voltage source.
The main principle behind the DDZ34-7 Zener diode is the Zener effect. When a voltage is applied to an undoped semiconductor, it creates a depletion zone, which is an area with a very low number of carriers and high electric field strength. Once a Zener diode is applied, however, the electric field strength increases enough to cause a valence-band electron to absorb the electric field’s energy and jump into the conduction band- creating a n-type charge carrier. This charge carrier effectively reduces the size of the depletion region, and allows current to flow through the diode.
The Zener effect causes the diode to break down at a predetermined voltage. When the voltage reaches a certain level, the electric field causes a population inversion, which allows a large amount of current to flow through the diode. This allows the diode to ‘clamp’ the excess voltage and provide a regulated output. By varying the doping concentrations of the semiconductor material used for the diode’s body, the breakdown voltage of the diode can be adjusted.
The DDZ34-7 is easy to use, and can be incorporated into almost any circuit. It’s ideal for use in circuits that require a reliable, predicable, and stable voltage source. The diode can be used with a minimum of interference or external components, and is extremely rugged, making it perfect for use in extreme or harsh environments.
