The DG181AA/883 analog switch is a precision, monolithic double–pole double-throw (DPDT) switch designed for use in telecommunications, industrial, and commercial applications. This switch features low ON-capacitance and low ON-resistance, and is designed to provide audio performance in a variety of switch applications, including switching high or low frequency analog or digital signals. The DG181AA/883 is capable of single-pole switching, multiplexing, and simultaneous switching of multiple channels.

The two channels of the DG181AA/883 can be switched in parallel to provide signaling between two points, or in series one after another for multiplexing a signal. Multiplexers are used for connecting several inputs to one output, or one input to several outputs. This is done by sending the signal through each line of the DG181AA/883 one at a time, called time division multiplexing. In a system where the signals speed is critical, the DG181AA/883’s low ON-capacitance makes it the optimal choice for efficiently transferring high frequency signals.

The DG181AA/883 analog switch also works as an efficient de-multiplexer in applications where multiple outputs from one input are required. This can be done by selecting one of the lines of the switch, then waiting for a signal to be output from the desired channel from the input. The DG181AA/883 is composed of two complementary PMOS transistors and two complementary NMOS transistors with twin diodes in the source and drain paths. When the switch is turned off, the threshold voltage allows up to 6V of safe input signals, while the output can still operate with 0V at the output. It is also designed to drive up to 16mA of current into the drain, and can handle signals up to 1MHz.
