The low on-state capacitance minimizes the effects of capacitive loading, thus making the switch suitable for use in applications ranging from high-bandwidth switching to low-bandwidth demultiplexers. The low on-resistance enables the switch to handle high-current applications as well as audio and video data signals.The physical design of the switch includes a metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) gate structure, a metal-insulated gate (MIG) junction, and a metal-oxide gate oxide layer. The MOS structure allows the switch to switch rapidly and predictably. The metal-insulated gate junction provides isolation and protection to the metal oxide gate oxide layer. Together, these two structures provide the switch with improved robustness and reliability when used in high-reliability systems.The operating principle of the switch involves the use of two independent transistors connected in common with a control voltage on the gate.
