DL4734A-TP is a single Zener diode typically used in voltage regulator applications. Zener diodes are two-terminal electronic devices that are designed to serve as a voltage regulator in an electronic circuit. A Zener diode, typically connected in reverse biased configuration, exhibits the property of “backflow” of current, which allows the device to regulate the voltage on a node of a circuit.The DL4734A-TP is constructed out of a silicon semiconductor material, and consists of two electrodes, an anode and a cathode. When a reverse bias voltage is applied to the diodes, a conductive channel between the anode and the cathode forms and current begins to flow in the reverse direction. A Zener diode is connected in reverse biased configuration across the DC power supply and as the power supply output voltage rises, the Zener diode clamp the voltage at its Zener voltage, thus regulating the output voltage at a preset level. The Zener voltage of the DL4734A-TP is typically 10V.Another, less common, but still important use of the DL4734A-TP is as an overvoltage protection device. It is often used to protect sensitive components in electronic circuits from damage due to overvoltage spikes or other transient voltage events. In this application, the Zener diode is connected in reverse biased configuration across the component or circuit being protected and is typically rated for a breakdown voltage (Zener voltage) slightly higher than the maximum voltage that the sensitive component can withstand.DL4734A-TP Zener diode also have certain design advantages over regular fast recovery diodes.
