Working Principle
DM74LS125AM is based on the principle of Schmitt trigger. This IC has 4 Schmitt triggers which contain two break points and two make points. At each break point, the voltage level of the signal changes suddenly, while at the make points the level changes slowly. The IC also has an inverter at the output of each of these triggers, thus providing output data signal in both positive as well as negative formats. A signal is applied to the input of the IC and the IC compares this signal with reference voltage levels to determine whether the data is high or low. This signal then passes through the internal Schmitt trigger and is passed to the output through the inverter. The output voltage is either low or high depending on the input signal level and the reference voltage levels. The DM74LS125AM IC also has hysteresis which is a phenomenon in which the output signal level is different for a change in level of the input signal. This makes it extremely useful in applications that involve transmission of weak signals as the hysteresis will clean up the signal. The logic family used in this IC is 74LS and it has power supply range from 3V to 15V.
