Introduction to DPA426SN
The DPA426SN is a highly integrated PWM controller for LED backlight application. It combines LED dimming controllers, LED string voltage-regulation enabling and charge pump integrated circuits. This new device takes a buck adjustable and a constant frequency synchronous boost to generate a high efficient, wide voltage range, floating current regulated power supply. The device supports panel brightness control through a voltage input and a PWM input and accurate current regulation in panels with different brightness requirements. The controlled boost converter can reach high conversion efficiency while the current regulation loop acts as a safety system to protect the panel.

Working Principle of DPA426SN
The device uses two active power regulation channels, a synchronous buck and a floating current regulated boost, to generate the output voltage required by the panel. It also utilizes a PWM buck dimming channel to achieve maximum dimming. The output voltage of the synchronized buck is adjustable and the output voltage of the current-regulated boost is fixed. The combined waveform of the two channels offers the advantage of a wide output voltage range and extremely high efficiency. The outputs of the two regulators are combined in a resistive divider, which offers excellent current regulation by varying the duty cycle of the boost converter at constant frequency. A simple average current regulation scheme is used to follow the initial brightness set by the dimming input.
