Application Field
The DS1225AD-85 is a non-volatile Random Access Memory (NVRAM) with a very low power requirement. It offers an ideal solution for applications that require short term memory retention during power loss, like contextual systems, digital instruments, data loggers, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Working Principle
The DS1225AD-85 is a CMOS SRAM with a built-in lithium energy source. It utilizes 70 mA of current from the power supply to activate a byte-wide non-volatile SRAM cell. When the power supply is disconnected, the lithium battery keeps the cells powered, preserving the data without the need for additional components.
The DS1225AD-85 also utilizes a special circuit that prevents the lithium battery voltage from sinking too low and corrupting the data. This circuit kicks in when the voltage drops to a predetermined level, automatically powering up the cells, thus protecting the data.
In addition, the DS1225AD-85 utilizes a watchdog timer designed to disable the output of the chip when the power supply stumbles for more than a set amount of time. This prevents the chip from expending too much energy through continuous writing and reading operations.
The DS1225AD-85 can operate from two supply voltages: 5V or 12V. While 5V operations is the most common, 12V operation might be necessary in certain cases, to give more voltage headroom to the lithium battery.
