The DS1708RESA PMIC Supervisors are plug-and-play devices with enhanced features that provide reduced pin count and improved performance. Typical applications include serve-oriented processors, servers, and enterprise Java applications. The device includes a reset timer that generates a reset signal when the device voltage level is low, allowing for improved system power consumption and guaranteeing orderly system re-start. The DS1708RESA PMIC Supervisors also offers enhanced security, improved performance and low power consumption. Its main features include:

Working Principle

The DS1708RESA PMIC Supervisors are designed to provide reset functionality in server and enterprise applications. This device allows the implementation of a power-on reset (POR) timeout, setting the time required for the system to stay in reset once the power is turned on. This feature, combined with the power good (PG) output, guarantees orderly system start-up and shutdown. The device monitors the power supply at all times, and maintains a power good signal until power falls below the set threshold level. When the power supply voltage falls below the threshold, the PG output is pulled low, forcing the reset output to go low, thus resetting the system.

When the system power is turned on, the POR begins a timer of selectable duration through an external resistor. After the POR timer is expired, the reset output is deasserted, allowing the system to start up. The DS1708RESA also provides reverse battery and low voltage protection with the internal comparator. When the battery voltage falls below the preset threshold, the driver is enabled and an active-low reset output is asserted, ensuring consistent system boot up.

The device also provides a manual reset input, which allows the user to manually assert the reset output at any time. The manual reset signal has higher priority than the other reset sources, overriding them if asserted. The manual reset input can also be used in certain applications to signal system reboots.
