Working Principle of DS1708EPA+:
 
The DS1708EPA+ detects and acknowledges a power-on reset (POR) condition when it detects that the supply voltage has dropped below a predetermined level. When it acknowledges the POR condition, it sends a reset pulse to the system processor, allowing it to perform a safe reset. The device also continuously monitors the supply voltage, and once the voltage reaches the correct levels, it will generate a pulse again. The reset signal length depends on the capacitance of the system.
 
Apart from the POR detection, the DS1708EPA+ also includes an adapter for monitoring a second voltage rail and generating a reset pulse if the voltage rates drop below a pre-defined threshold. This feature enables the resets system to easily monitor and prevent power failure in dual-voltage systems. The pre-defined thresholds of the monitored voltage rails can be easily adjusted using the external control pins.
