Power Management IC (PMIC) - SupervisorsPower Management IC (PMIC) devices provide voltage regulation for various data processing functions in a wide variety of applications, from consumer electronics to industrial and automotive control. PMICs also serve as voltage supervisors that monitor the operating voltages and currents regulating the state of an application system. As such, supervisors are integral to the successful operation of computing and embedded systems, protecting circuits from excessive power supply transients and unexpected unit resets.One example of a PMIC supervisor is the DS1814CR-10+T&R device, a highly integrated circuit designed to provide system power monitoring, reset control, and power-on reset circuitry in a small footprint. This device integrates several complementary functions to optimize power management and ensure system integrity, including a 10V low dropout voltage regulator, reset detector, watchdog timer and system reset output.The primary application of the DS1814CR-10+T&R is to safeguard microprocessor-based systems against system and processor faults, brownouts, and latch-ups due to power supply transients. It can be used in multiple redundant systems and is designed for use with single- or dual-monitor reset logic. Depending on the application, the DS1814CR-10+T&R can also be used as a primary power monitoring circuit, secondary OVP/OCP, voltage detector, and adjustable power-on reset.The basic operation of the DS1814CR-10+T&R revolves around two main components: the 10 Volt Low Dropout (LDO) Voltage Regulator and the Reset Detector. The 10V LDO regulator provides the low voltage power supply required to power the system, while the Reset Detector oversees the system\'s power supply and generates a system reset if a fault is detected.The power-on reset (POR) circuit monitors the output voltage of the 10V LDO and generates a reset signal if it falls below a certain threshold. This reset signal is then routed through the Reset Detector circuitry to trigger a system reset. The watchdog timer monitors system activity and can trigger a system reset in the event of a system lockout or program error.The 10V LDO voltage regulator is designed to detect low-voltage conditions and reduce the amount of power dissipated from the system.
