A thermopile is a solid-state electrical device which operates by converting heat into an electrical signal. In this device, the thermopile consists of many thermocouples connected in series, so that their output voltage is the sum of the voltages produced by each thermocouple. This output voltage is proportional to the temperature.The DS18S20-SL+T&R uses a special technology called a Sliding Bridge Circuit for temperature measurement. This allows for precise temperature measurement with low noise and excellent repeatability. The result is a temperature measurement range from -58 °F to +302 °F (-50 °C to +150 °C), with a resolution of 0.125 °F (0.0625 °C).The device features a dual output mode; it can be set to measure in either analog or digital output. For analog output, the output voltage range is 0 mV to 4.1 mV, with a linear slope of 0.32 mV/°F. The digital output is available in the form of an SMBus8 or I2C, and provides digital data up to 16 bits of resolution.To ensure temperature accuracy, the DS18S20-SL+T&R temperature sensor has built-in functions to correct on-board thermistor parameters. Also, for applications requiring higher accuracy, the unit has an optional on-board compensated thermistor to compensate for temperature drift.In addition to accuracy, the DS18S20-SL+T&R provides excellent reliability.
