The DS2502S+ is a discreet low-cost serial EEPROM, featuring 1K-Bit (128 x 8) memory, the chip communicates with a microcontroller via a standard two-wire protocol. The chip is used in a variety of applications, due to its small size, low-power consumption and flexibility. The DS2502S+ includes an address counter, page write operations, and random address read operations.

Working Principle
The DS2502S+ chip has three inputs and two outputs and operates on an asynchronous 2-wire serial interface. The inputs are: an external clock (SCLK), data line (E), and a chip select input (CS). The outputs are: a data line (D) and a serial data out (SO). The CS input is used to select the chip and to start the communication between the controller and the memory. The E input holds data to be written to the chip during the write operation. The D output can be used to read data from the chip. The SO output can be used to read the status of the chip, if an error occurred during a previous write operation, or the write completion status.The chip has an internal address counter with a 1K maximum capacity. The address counter is incremented automatically, so that the microcontroller need not send these address bytes every time, it can read or write data sequentially. The random address read operation allows the chip to read the data by transmitting a two-byte address and then to receive data.Writing data to the chip is a simple process. The microcontroller sends a start bit, followed by the write command, the memory address and finally the data bytes that need to be written. The write cycles are self-timed and the microcontroller does not have to provide any additional timing signals.The page write operatin allows the microcontroller to write up to 8 bytes at a time to the memory chip. This will increase the speed of data transfer for larger amounts of data.
