Memory technology is an integral part of many embedded applications, from digital photography to biotechnology. DS2505+ is an advanced NAND flash memory product from Maxim Integrated, providing nonvolatile storage for embedded products. With increasing integration and improved memory technology, embedded designers must select memory components that provide both the performance and features necessary for their applications.

The DS2505+ is a single-chip nonvolatile memory system with a built-in controller, based on Maxim\'s charge-trap Flash memory technology. Its integrated controller provides host access control, wear-leveling, ECC protection and other features that are normally separate components or processes. This chip is particularly well-suited for applications where the embedded product must contain important system settings, user data and code information in an ultra-low power, reliable and cost-effective form.

The DS2505+ provides nonvolatile storage for up to 8GB\'s worth of data, even in the event of a power supply failure. This memory device can be used in digital photography, medical devices, industrial automation, consumer electronics and other devices requiring direct storage of settings and application code.

The DS2505+ works by storing charge on insulated blocks of silicon. As charge is added to the floating gates of a memory cell, the chip stores one or two bits of data. The data remains in the cell even when the power is shut off. To prevent the charge from dissipating, the chip is equipped with Error Correction Coding (ECC) to detect and correct any errors in the data.

The DS2505+ controller is also powered by the host device. The controller includes both a low-power clock and a loadable register configurable for maximum clock, program and erase frequencies. With this flexibility, the memory device\'s power consumption is reduced, extending battery life even further.

The DS2505+ features a 200 MHz Enhanced Memory Core, allowing the device to process transactions faster than standard NAND Flash memories. Additionally, the chip can support two memory packaging styles adjustable in size from 4KB to 128KB: PD-NAND and HyperBus, increasing I/O performance. This allows for higher throughput, faster data transfer and lower power consumption.

This memory device also supports 3.3V or 5.0V power, making it suitable for any processor. Moreover, the ECC algorithm includes Hamming and SEC-DED, providing excellent data accuracy and reliability.
