Working Principle

The DS36276M transceiver IC contain internal logic to negotiate with the link partner at startup and adjust its transmit signal to the optimum for compatibility with the link partner. The negotiation is done in two steps: in the first step, the link partner is selected and the transmission code word is determined; in the second step, the operation speed is determined. All the negotiation is done without external control. The negotiation ensures that both devices are connected at the highest possible speed. The IC continuously senses the ready state of the link partner and modulates/de-modulates the received data accordingly.

The IC also features an auto-negotiation link partner wake-up functionality. When the link partner is not yet ready for the network connection, it can be triggered to wake up by the IC. This greatly simplifies the start-up procedure of the network connection. The transceiver IC also features a packet detection mechanism to detect if valid packets are available on the network. This allows the IC to respond to received packets in a timely manner and provides better performance.

The DS36276M also features a rate selection feature to allow the end user to manually configure the IC. This feature allows the user to force the IC to select a specific speed and duplex mode, depending on their application needs. This simplifies the configuration process and ensures the IC is running at the optimum speed for maximum performance.
