DS87C520-WCL application field and working principle

The DS87C520-WCL is a full-featured 32-bit single-chip microcontroller, manufactured by Intersil, that combines a reduced instruction set 8051-like CPU core, several peripherals and user-programmable flash memory on a single silicon die. It is designed to reduce the need for various external components and provide a high degree of cost savings for embedded applications.

The features of the DS87C520-WCL include a 10-bit A/D converter (ADC), three timer/counters, 8051-compatible interrupt controller, SPI, UART and I2C peripheral controllers, and an on-chip oscillator. Its flash memory is user-configurable, with up to 512k bytes of ROM and 32k bytes of SRAM. It also includes an on-chip voltage regulator to allow the use of an external or an internal voltage source.

Working Principle

The DS87C520-WCL works using the same basic principle as any other microcontroller. The program memory contains instructions which control the various operations of the microcontroller, such as data manipulation, input/output operations, and timing operations. It will also execute these instructions in a predetermined order according to the program instructions.
