A single, surface-mounted rectifier, the DSI30-12AS is a general purpose, self-commutated surface-mount silicon diode, designed to be insensitive to the DC bias of the diode. This special feature makes the DSI30-12AS suitable for use in power-level applications like AC/DC and DC/DC converters, and rectification in mains and low voltage filtration circuits. The hermetically sealed package offers excellent electrical insulation and insulation performance.

The DSI30-12AS is a 30A rectifier with a maximum forward voltage of 1.2V, a reverse-recovery time of 40 ns, and a surge current tolerance of 200 amps with a 600V storage temperature rating. The diode also offers over voltage protection and an integrated circuit protection, as well as an internal temperature detection circuit with an output on pin one that prevents damage due to overheating. The diode can be used in either single or multiple configurations, enabling increased current output while providing improved thermal protection and durability.

The DSI30-12AS works in an AC/DC converter or rectifier circuit by using a series of specially designed diodes to convert the Alternating Currents (AC) into Direct Currents (DC). The conversion works by allowing current flow through one of the diodes, but prevents it from flow back the other way. As the AC voltage flows through each diode, the voltage is changed from alternating current to direct current. The DSI30-12AS also acts as a filter to reduce the presence of spikes and other noise in the circuited modules.

Additionally, by operating in a reverse voltage mode, the DSI30-12AS diode is able to protect the equipment from higher voltages. This can be achieved through a process of reverse voltage protection, whereby the diode behaves as a low resistance when reversed biased and a high resistance when forward biased, enabling the desired level of protection.

The DSI30-12AS is also employed in DC/DC converters, which employ the same operation as an AC/DC converter but with a DC supply. The device essentially works to convert a DC current into one with a higher voltage, enabling remote sites or items to be powered by a small, localized source. The device works by applying the DC filter voltage across the diode, and when a specific level is reached, it permits current flow from the higher voltage source to the lower voltage part.

In a circuit-level filtering system, the DSI30-12AS rectifier is used to prevent the transmission of harmonics–higher frequency alternating signals–which can interfere with other systems. The diode works by allowing the high-frequency AC signals to pass through, while simultaneously blocking lower frequency signals. This allows for the proper powering of devices with exceptional power-level needs, and improved noise suppression for sensitive applications.

The DSI30-12AS is designed for simple, reliable power-level rectification – a needle in the haystack when it comes to single, surface-mounted rectifiers.
