Application Field and Working Principle

Snap action, limit switches are used to open or close a circuit when a device or system reaches a predetermined position. These limit switches are commonly used for monitoring the travel limits of a machine, as well as detecting, counting, or positioning objects on a conveyor.

The DSSE10(AC)UA limit switch is designed for industrial automation, control and instrumentation applications. It is a three-pole, single-throw device with a large operating lever and a die-cast zinc housing that is resistant to the elements. The DPST contact arrangement provides a unique combination of long life, durability and ruggedness.

The operating principle of this switch involves two key components: the operating lever and the contact actuator. The operating lever is spring loaded and has two positions. When the switch is in the ‘off’ position, the lever rests against a stop which keeps the contacts open. When externally operated, the lever moves to the second ‘on’ position, closing the contacts and sending a signal to the control system.

The contact actuator is the second key component of the DSSE10(AC)UA. It is a small plunger that is actuated by the operating lever and is connected to the contact bridge. When the operating lever is in the ‘off’ position, the contact actuator is in its default position, keeping the contact bridge open. When the lever is moved to the ‘on’ position, the contact actuator is actuated, pushing against the contact bridge and closing the contacts which completes the circuit.
