DZ23C27-E3-08 Application Field and Working Principle

The DZ23C27-E3-08 is an array of Zener diodes, produced by NXP Semiconductors, that is capable of providing a minimum of 4V to a maximum of 8V, depending on the specific diode. It is a monolithic integrated transmission array with eight individual diodes.

The DZ23C27-E3-08 can be used for a variety of applications including voltage clamping, signal levels and data line protection, voltage level translation, and over-voltage protection. It is designed to provide ESD protection up to 15kV Human Body Model or 8kV Charged Device Model. The diodes have a low reverse leakage voltage, fast switching speeds and low capacitance.

Working Principle

At its most basic level, the working principle of the DZ23C27-E3-08 is very simple. It is a diode array, each with its own reverse breakdown voltage and forward conduction voltage drop. The breakdown voltage (Vz) of the diode array is the voltage at which the current through the diode reverses its direction. When the voltage across the diode is greater than the breakdown voltage, electrons move from anode to cathode, and current flows. This is known as forward current. When the voltage across the diode is less than the breakdown voltage, the current reverses its direction and flows from cathode to anode, this is known as reverse current.

Each diode in the DZ23C27-E3-08 can provide protection from voltage surges and over-voltages up to its breakdown voltage. When the voltage across the diode exceeds the breakdown voltage, the diode will begin to conduct and the current will be limited to a safe level until the voltage returns to a safe level.
