An aluminum electrolytic capacitor, is an electrical capacitor with a solid aluminum electrolyte. The electrolyte acts as the dielectric in this type of capacitor, providing a low impedance path for electrons to travel between the capacitor’s two plates. The electrical current flows through the capacitor allowing the electrolyte to expand and provide greater capacitance.

ECA-1EM331 Application Field and Working Principle

The ECA-1EM331 type aluminum electrolytic capacitor is a leaded type product mainly used for power supplies and general purpose applications. It has a capacitance range of 0.46 to 4700kHz and a voltage range of 6.3 to 450VDC. It has a standard ESR range of 20 to 820 mΩ and an insulation resistance range of 1000 to 20000MΩ. The capacitor has a ripple current up to 11.3A with an operating temperature range of -55 to +85°C with a life span of 2000 hours.

The ECA-1EM331 features a 3-pin design which allows for rapid connection to a PCB. The three pins are connected to the positive and negative plates and the electrolyte. The positive and negative plates are sealed together within the aluminum casing, with the electrolyte in between them. When AC/DC voltage is applied, an electric current passes through the capacitor, and charges the dielectric layer between the plates. This causes the storage and release of energy from the capacitor, resulting in a stored electrical energy.
