Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, also known as Al-cap or electrolytic capacitors, are one of the most common type of electronic component. They offer a wide variety of values and have the highest capacitance of any single-ended capacitors. An aluminum electrolytic capacitor is constructed of two metal foils that are separated by a dielectric. The two metal foils are typically aluminum which is anodized and has an etchant mixture aluminum foil which is also etched into the dielectric. These capacitors are bi-polar devices with voltage ratings of up to several hundred volts and capacitance values ranging from the femtofarad range to microfarad range.
