Working Principle

An aluminum electrolytic capacitor is made up of two aluminum foil electrodes separated by moist absorbent paper. The amount of electrical charge stored in the capacitor is proportional to the surface area of the anode and the cathode, and the thickness of the dielectric layers. The electrical charge is stored in the dielectric, and is discharged when the voltage is removed.
