When a voltage is applied across the capacitor, a current of charge carriers, such as electrons, flows through the electrolyte from the negative to the positive terminal (anode to the cathode). This introduces ions from the electrolyte into the oxide layer of both electrodes, coating it with a positive charge on the negative side and a negative charge on the positive side. This charge transfer creates an electric field within the capacitor, resulting in a potential energy stored between the plates. This potential energy holds the charge until the current is reversed or discharged, which causes the stored energy to be released into the circuit. The ECO-S1EP332BA uses a tantalum anode, a conductive polymer cathode and a high dielectric ceramics, such as barium titanate, for the dielectric.
