Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in power supplies, consumer electronics, electric and medical instruments, communications and industrial control fields, especially those high voltage capacitors with large capacity. Among them, ECO-S2DP471BA is the most commonly used one. It is applied in the pulse discharge system and the device can be triggered by a trigger pulse of -0.5 to -6V.

The working principle of ECO-S2DP471BA is to use an electrolyte (such as an ionic solution) with strong electrical conductivity, which is formed by a thin layer of aluminum oxide on the outer surface of the aluminum foil. When the inner and outer electrodes are connected with the corresponding voltage, an electric field is generated between them, and the positive ions in the electrolyte move toward the inner electrode. Thus, since the capacitance between the two electrodes depends on the area, thickness of the dielectric material, and the distance between them, the capacitance of the aluminum electrolytic capacitor can be adjusted by adjusting the thickness of the aluminum foil and dielectric material.

ECO-S2DP471BA consists of two aluminum plates, each of which is connected to a set of metal canisters in which electrolyte is kept. The outer canister is connected to the negative side, while the inner canister is connected to the positive side. When a negative voltage is applied between the two plates, electrons are injected onto the second surface of the aluminum foil. The electrons become attached to the moisture in the electrolyte and form a highly conductive layer on the outer side of the aluminum foil. This layer is the dielectric material.

Once the capacitor is charged, the electric current will be blocked by the dielectric material, thus forming a stable electrical field between the two conductors. The capacitance of the device is determined by the size of the dielectric material. The capacitance of the ECO-S2DP471BA is relatively high, so this capacitor can be used to store large amounts of electrical energy. In addition, due to its high voltage as well as its characteristic design, this capacitor can also be used to filter out AC signal, suppress short-term peak current and suppress high-frequency interference, as well as for transient circuit protection.
