Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are a type of capacitor which relies on an electrolyte to perform capacitive duties. They are often denoted by the acronym “ALC”. Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in electrical and electronic circuits due to their low cost, high capacitance, long life and robust performance. Among them, ECO-S2GP271CA defines a special type of aluminum electrolytic capacitor, which can be commonly used in various application fields.

The ECO-S2GP271CA is a polar double-ended axial leaded aluminium electrolytic capacitor, which has a 220 uF capacitance and a working voltage of 15VDC. It is a "standard" size and is a long life series type, possessing an excellent service life of 5000 hours at 85 degrees Celsius and 86% humidity. In comparison with other types of aluminum electrolytic capacitors, it has a higher capacitance value, making it suitable for applications with more complex and higher capacity requirements. The terminals are standard tin-plating, with a +/- tolerance of +/-20% for capacitance and a minimum high voltage of +100VAC.

ECO-S2GP271CA has a wide range of applications in various circuits, such as thermal protection circuit, multiple-frequency filtering circuit, filter capacitor, power current stabilizing circuit, capacitor start motor, power color light divider circuit or the circulation current filter circuit. It can also be used in wide rail supply equipment, battery backup circuits, various switching power supply circuits, motor control circuits, electronic ballast circuits, and UPS circuits. Apart from the above-mentioned usages, it also has the following advantages: lower cost, better stability and easier installation.

In terms of its working principle, ECO-S2GP271CA is a type of capacitor which uses electro lysis to produce the capacitance, by passing current through the electrolyte. The electrolyte, which is usually a mixture of regions, is sandwiched between two metal plates, which act as the electrodes. When an external electric field is applied, the electrolyte becomes polarized, and the charges move to the electrodes. This polarising action then creates a capacitance. Because the electrolyte is an ionic medium, it can store charge further. Hence, this capacity increases the capacitance stored by the capacitor.

As a result of this electro deposition, an oxide layer is formed on the electrodes, thus compensating leakage. Moreover, its cathode is made of an electrically resistant material, such as anodised aluminium, which means that the capacitor can store charge for a longer period of time, thus making it more suitable for long-term applications.
