Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in various fields of electronic circuit, such as DC motor drive, electric light trigger control, display lights, and audio frequency power supply filter. Among them, Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are especially used for higher power applications such as power supply decoupling, voltage stabilisation and peak current support. One of the most popular Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, the EEE-HD1E100AR, has been designed specifically for higher power applications and is suitable for DC and AC circuits.

This capacitor is constructed using advanced winding technology and a radial style of design allows mounting directly onto PCBs. This capacitor features an electrolyte grade of 6.3V and has a capacitance range of 100uf. The terminal configurations are compliant to IEC standard so that it can be easily integrated into existing designs.

Working Principles

The EEE-HD1E100AR is a polarized Aluminum electrolytic capacitor which is constructed using two components; an anode, referred to as the positive terminal and a cathode, referred to as the negative terminal. The anode is typically constructed from an Aluminum foil which has had an oxide layer applied onto it followed by being electrolytically etched to increase the surface area. The cathode is usually constructed from a carbon-based material. The electrolyte is used to bridge the two components and interact with the oxide layer.

When a voltage is applied to the Aluminum electrolytic capacitor, it will cause the oxide layer to become polarized and thus forming the connection between the anode and the cathode. This creates an electric field which allows the current to flow between the two components; creating an electric current. The amount of current that will flow is proportional to the amount of voltage applied as well as the overall capacitance of the capacitor.

Application Fields

As previously stated, the EEE-HD1E100AR has been designed specifically for higher power applications and is suitable for both DC and AC circuits. It is commonly used in industrial applications like motor drives, lighting, and AV systems. This capacitor is also ideal for applications that require a fast switching time such as switched-mode power supplies or for automotive applications such as fuel injection systems. It is also suitable for handling power transients in power systems, electronic equipment and vehicles.
