Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors
Aluminium electrolytic capacitors use an oxide layer on aluminum in place of a dielectric and feature a larger capacitance in a smaller package size than other types of capacitors, thus making them ideal for filtering, decoupling, and energy-storage applications. Working Principle
The EEE-TG2A101M Aluminium Electrolytic Capacitor works in a circuit the same way as other capacitor types. It stores energy between two metal plates and releases it when the circuit needs it. Specifically, an electrolytic capacitor consists of two aluminum foil electrodes - an anode and a cathode - each coated with an oxide film. The aluminum foils are placed inside a metal can, and electrolyte is added to the can to form an electric field between the two aluminum foils, creating a polarized capacitor. In this design, the aluminum foil acts as the terminal of the capacitor. The oxide layer acts as the dielectric between the two aluminum foils and as the electrical connection to the external circuit. By connecting the capacitor to an alternating voltage source, an electrical charge is built up in the oxide layer. This charge builds up until the oxide layer is completely saturated.
