Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are polarized capacitors whose anode is made from a pure and thin aluminum foil. This foil is processed with an electrolytic cast process in which a very thin oxide film is formed which acts as the dielectric. This anode is then rolled and the entire process is often referred to as a wet winding technique. The foil is connected to the capacitor’s cathode, aluminum oxide is the dielectric which is formed in the gap within the foil. The capacitor terminal is connected to the cathode. The most common type of aluminum electrolytic capacitor is EET-UQ2V221HA.

The EET-UQ2V221HA is an axial mounted aluminum electrolytic capacitor designed for use in general purpose electronic applications including power supplies and motor drives. The capacitor is rated at 220V and has a capacitance of 220mF. It is constructed from a tantalum cathode and a self-healing anode. The capacitor features low leakage current, high capacitance and excellent temperature stability. In addition, the capacitor has a high insulation resistance and low DF (dissipation factor).

When the capacitance of the capacitor increases or decreases as the applied voltage or the resistive load changes, this affects the time constant of the circuit. The time constant of the circuit can be controlled by selecting the appropriate values for the voltage and the resistive load.
