Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are electronic components composed of two parallel metal plates separated by an insulating material, referred to as a dielectric. The metal plates, or conductors, can either be an anode or cathode, depending on the type of capacitor, and the dielectric consists of two layers. The first, an insulating aluminum oxide layer, is formed by anodizing the aluminum plate. The second layer is usually a paper, plastic or other solid dielectric material.
