Working Principle

The EL5421CY is based on a differential amplifier architecture with a continuous-time, low-voltage amplifier stage, with a very low input noise, and a high slew rate (300V/us). This amplifier works in a single-supply mode, with low input offsets and low noise performance. The device can operate with a supply voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V and it is CMOS- and TTL-compatible.

The device\'s output stage is configured as a current- feedback amplifier, providing excellent distortion and fast settling time. Additionally, the EL5421CY includes several features such as a low offset voltage (1.6mV max), a low DC offset drift (50 μV/°C max), a gain temperature coefficient of 0.02%/°C, and a low output impedance.

The EL5421CY can be configured with a wide range of gain settings from 0dB to +36dB simply by using external resistors. The gain of the amplifier is determined by the ratio of two external resistors, Rg and Rs, as follows:

Gain = 1 + (Rg / Rs)

The device features slew rate control, allowing the user to set the desired settling time of the amplifier by adding an optional external capacitor, CS, in parallel with the non- inverting input, as shown in the following equation:

SR = 0.5 / (2 π · RS · CS)

The EL5421CY also features a power-down mode that can be enabled by applying a logic 0 voltage to the device\'s PWR_DOWN port. When the power-down mode is active, the amplifier draws less than 0.4 mA of current, allowing the system designer to reduce power consumption in portable applications.
