EL7531EVAL1Z is an application field evaluation board that allows engineers to assess the performance of the EL7531 current mode PWM controller for applications such as off-line SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply). It can also be used to assess the design and performance of AC to DC and DC to DC converters. EL7531EVAL1Z is an off-line, isolated input, buck converter design featuring a secondary side synchronous rectifier with an on-board power transistor.The application field evaluation board EL7531EVAL1Z utilizes the patented programmable PFM/PWM/PFM control of the EL7531 (controller) on a high performance, off-line evaluation board suitable for operation from a wide range of AC mains voltage levels. This allows evaluation of the EL7531 in many applications in which operating over wide AC line voltage variance is a requirement, such as global AC mains power supplies such as charging adapters and power supplies.The evaluation board is designed to evaluate the operation of the EL7531 in both PFM (pulse frequency modulation) and PWM (pulse width modulation) control by providing a low cost, single layer, hybrid board. The evaluation board allows easy user level adjustments of the EL7531 parameters including maximum output ripple current (MOC) and minimum output voltage. The evaluation board also features the ability to observe the current mode control loop using an external oscilloscope for further investigation of the EL7531\'s performance in various conditions.The working principle of the EL7531EVAL1Z evaluation board is based on the high efficiency synchronous buck topology. The board is designed around an isolated input, featuring a secondary side synchronous rectifier with an on-board power transistor. The design ensures that the output voltage ripple current (MOC) is reduced, allowing power density to be increased and reducing component count. The board also features an adjustable output voltage that is programmable with a user adjustable input voltage.The EL7531EVAL1Z evaluation board utilizes the EL7531 PWM controller to operate in either PFM or PWM control for optimum load transient response.
