Working principle

The EL7534IY-T7 utilizes its two signals (PHASE and FORCE) to provide a 2A synchronous step-down DC/DC converter which can operate in either a forced-ON or a forced-OFF mode. It is also capable of a soft-start feature which helps in limiting inrush current during startup.When there is no AC supply, the control voltage (VCTL) remains high and the switch node is cut off from the output. Once the AC supply is connected, the switching process begins and is completed in three stages.

• Pre-bias Stage: In the pre-bias stage, the synchronous rectifier is enabled as soon as VCTL reaches the set threshold voltage. This period is designed for the switch node to reach its initial state, preventing large current drawn during the circuit turn ON. It will hold until the current reaches its initial value.
• INV Stage:In the INV (low voltage) Stage, the switch controller is turned ON. The DC link (VCTL) starts to rise. The maximum range of the current is defined by the Current Limiting circuitry. The output of the converter is limited to a voltage just below its regulated target value, allowing a smooth transition to regulate mode.
• Regulate Mode:In the regulate mode, the controller will apply a pulse-width modulation (PWM) frequency to the switch node, ensuring that the output voltage of the converter is at its target voltage. Once the output voltage has been regulated, the switching process exits the regulator mode. The switching frequency is dynamically adjusted based on the output load to ensure maximum efficiency.
