EL7556DCMZ is a device from PMIC - Voltage Regulators - DC DC Switching Regulators category. EL7556DCMZ is configurable for multiple operating modes including Buck, Boost, Buck/Boost and Bidirectional mode.

EL7556DCMZ supports true drive synchronous rectification, as well as cycle by cycle current limit with either single phase (Input or output current) or complete phase current sensing. This feature makes the device suitable for parallel operation when multiple converters are used.
The working principle of EL7556DCMZ is based on the Buck/Boost converter topology. The DC-DC switch mode converter uses a power switching device (MOSFET) and a capacitor for each input and output voltage. The MOSFETs are switched on and off to control the amount of power supplied to the output capacitor. This switching of the MOSFETs is controlled by a voltage loop and a current loop. The voltage loop controls the output voltage, while the current loop provides current protection for the system.
To keep the output voltage regulated and stable, the voltage loop tracks a voltage reference and when the output voltage exceeds the reference voltage, the control logic will instruct the MOSFETs to draw more current, thus reducing the output voltage. Alternatively, when the output voltage is below the reference voltage, the MOSFETs will draw less current, thus increasing the output voltage.
The current loop monitors the current flowing through the MOSFETs and controls the system to keep the current level below the maximum current limit. In case the current increases beyond the limit, the MOSFETs will be turned off to prevent the power supply and the system from damage.
EL7556DCMZ also implements an ideal diode for the input and output. This ideal diode will provide a path for the current to flow from one of the voltages to another. In the case of a discharge of the output capacitor, the ideal diode will detect the energy coming from the input voltage and allow it to flow to the output capacitor.
The EL7556DCMZ device also implements cycle by cycle current limit with either single or all phases current sensing. When one or more of the current sensing points reach their maximum current limit, the MOSFETs will be turned off to prevent a damage to the system. This cycle by cycle current limit will ensure a stable and reliable operation of the system.
