EL7563CREZ Application Field and Working Principle

EL7563CREZ is a type of voltage regulator manufactured by Elantec semiconductor (ESCO). It is classified according to it’s application under the category of PMIC – Voltage Regulators – DC DC Switching Regulators. It is used as a switching voltage regulator to maintain the source voltage within a predetermined range. EL7563CREZ is designed to be flexible and highly adjustable, making it suitable for variety of operations. It has a wide range of adjustable output voltage, up to 90% of the input voltage. It is also adjustable from the current protection point of view, with over temperature protection, cycle-by-cycle current limiting, and a spot for a thermistor for additional protection.

Working Principle

EL7563CREZ works on a switching principle, switching at 500KHz, to maintain the accurate output voltage level. It functions by utilizing a synchronous rectifier with an integrated driver and MOSFETs. In this system there are two outputs: one is a high voltage and other is low voltage. When input voltage is applied, high voltage MOSFET is turned on and low voltage MOSFET is turned off. This provides the desired output voltage. When input voltage is decreases the high voltage MOSFET is turned off and low voltage MOSFET is turned on and the input voltage is filtered and the output voltage is maintained.

To keep the output voltage in check, the integrated Power MOSFETs monitors the voltage changes and actuators accordingly, maintaining accurate voltage levels. The integrated thermal sensing circuit monitors the temperature levels and changes the output voltage as needed.

The internal soft start ramp ensures no power dip- and- peaks to occur which ensures the safety of other components.The Internal Power MOSFETs eliminate the need for external components like power inductor and Schottky diode, thus making the systems efficient in power.
